Ants can help diagnose cancer: insects detect disease by smelling urine

French scientists conducted an experiment: they transplanted pieces of a mammary gland tumor into mice. After that, they placed the ants in vessels with the urine of infected and healthy rodents. It turned out that ants stayed near the urine of cancer-infected mice 20% longer. Insects apparently pick up biomarkers with their receptors that indicate the presence of cancer.

The researchers are full of optimism: they called the experiment promising. Ants could subsequently become an inexpensive biological detector of cancer.
