Another Norfolk Southern train derails in Ohio
Norfolk Southern clarified that the accident occurred near the city of Springfield. In total, approximately 20 cars derailed, but no one was injured. Unlike the Feb. 3 crash in East Palestine, Ohio, a company spokesman told NBC News that the train was not carrying hazardous materials.
“Our staff are on their way to the site to begin cleanup work,” the company said.
The crash left more than 1500 people without power and the Clark County Emergency Management Agency asked residents within 1000 feet of the scene to remain in shelters. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg tweeted that he had been informed of the incident by the Federal Railroad Administration and had spoken with the Ohio governor to offer support.
