Niagara Falls partially frozen due to snow storm

A severe snowstorm in the United States with record low air temperatures caused an unusual phenomenon: in some places Niagara Falls simply froze.

Every year the river under the waterfall freezes, but the waterfall itself is extremely rare. Now it is surrounded by layers of ice, into which streams of water and splashes turn. At the same time, complete freezing of the waterfall is almost impossible due to the large amount of water and its constant movement.

In 1964, special barriers were installed near the waterfall to prevent the accumulation of large amounts of ice. Niagara Falls had frozen over only five times before.
