In the US, $5,4 million was claimed from the account of a Russian businessman

New York prosecutors have decided to confiscate $5,4 million from a US bank account belonging to Russian businessman Konstantin Malofeev, whom Washington accused of financing separatists in eastern Ukraine and Crimea and imposed sanctions against him. Federal prosecutors in New York said in court papers that they are entitled to the money because Malofeev tried to transfer it to a business partner in violation of US sanctions.

The announcement of confiscation, according to the United States, means another blow from the government aimed at gaining control over the assets of wealthy Russians, in order to put pressure on Moscow and persuade the Kremlin to end the conflict in Ukraine.
