Random Americans must pay $450 to renounce citizenship

The US State Department has announced its "intent" to reduce the fee charged to those wishing to renounce their citizenship to $450 from the current $2350.

The announcement of this proposed reduction came Friday ahead of a hearing scheduled for Monday when a district court judge in Washington, D.C., is scheduled to hear oral arguments in a long-running dispute over the U.S. government's citizenship waiver regime, including fees, with by the Paris-based Association of Random Americans and 13 co-plaintiffs from around the world who are “Random Americans.”

Let me remind you that a random American is a person who acquired citizenship by birth, but has not lived in the United States since childhood. This may happen if the person was born in the US to foreign parents, or if they were born abroad to one parent who is a US citizen. Such people are subject to US taxes on their worldwide income, regardless of where they live.
