The new US aircraft carrier Gerald Ford set off on her first combat mission
The ship departed from a port in Norfolk (Virginia): as part of the strike group of destroyers Ramage, McFaul and Thomas Hudner, the aircraft carrier will perform missions in Europe and Africa. The new ship will become the main combat aircraft carrier of the US Navy instead of the already outdated USS George W. Bush.
Ford was supposed to go on combat duty back in 2018, but engineers encountered many technical problems that took 5 years to resolve.
