New turnstiles are being tested in the New York subway

The first new turnstiles appeared at the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station in downtown Brooklyn back in March. The same turnstiles will be installed at the Sutphin-Archer station in Queens. This is a test program to gather information, data and feedback on the new turnstiles, according to the MTA. MTA officials are now looking for turnstile designs that are more accessible and user-friendly. Test sites will be monitored. The new turnstiles feature floor sensors and remote monitoring to provide data on usage and passenger numbers. They can also track ticketless travel by recording and comparing the number of fares collected with the number of passengers. This is not the final design. Based on the findings and observations, the MTA plans to test other options over the next month.
