Eric Adams Calls on Court to 'Revisit' Law That Declared New York a Sanctuary City

New York City Mayor Eric Adams was in court, where he asked a judge to "reconsider" the law declaring New York a sanctuary city, which Mayor Ed Koch signed into law in 1989. Adams explained that when Koch signed the law, "no one thought they would be dealing with a humanitarian crisis of this magnitude." It is worth noting that one of Adams' campaign promises was to maintain New York's status as a "sanctuary city." In this matter he went so far as to allow foreigners to vote in local elections. New York City welcomed more than 61 undocumented immigrants last year, according to Adams' office. However, there are now more asylum seekers.

“We accepted more than 4200 asylum seekers last week alone and continue to accept hundreds of asylum seekers every day,” Adams’ office said.
