Record layoffs in the NYPD: officers are resigning more often
According to statistics from the New York Police Department, 2023 officers left law enforcement in January 239 alone. This is 36% more than last year and 117% more than in 2021. The statistics on police dismissals can be compared with 2007, when 250 people immediately left the department due to a controversial labor contract. Experts predict that 1400 police officers will retire early this year. In 2022, 1297 officers left the NYPD early.
Of course, the main reason for the dismissals was the police reform that was carried out in New York after the BLM protests.
