Ron Desantis is now officially running for President of the United States
Florida's governor has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission. DeSantis, one of the brightest leaders of the Republican Party, confidently won re-election as governor of Florida for a second term last November. In recent months, DeSantis has become famous for a series of hard-line conservative decisions targeting LGBT people, immigration and China.
In winter, Desantis found himself at the center of a scandal, making statements against support for Ukraine. However, under pressure from the party, he disavowed his words. DeSantis is considered Donald Trump's main rival in the race for the Republican nomination.
Primary elections in the states will begin in the winter, and only in the summer of 2024 at the conventions will each party choose a single candidate.
