Tesla wins court for the first time, defending its Autopilot
Tesla won a case against Justine Hsu, a Los Angeles woman who accused the Model S's famous Autopilot of driving the car into a curb, causing the airbag to deploy, knocking out a woman's teeth, breaking her jaw and damaging a nerve in her face. The California jury's decision is historic because it marks the first time Tesla has won a lawsuit blaming the company's Autopilot for an accident.
Hsu sought damages of more than $3 million. An important twist in the case was that the woman was using autopilot on city streets. Tesla's owner's manual warns against this. Therefore, Hsu received no compensation at all.
