Millions of Americans will lose Medicaid coverage today
To obtain health insurance, you must meet certain criteria and renew your policy every year. However, in 2020, during the pandemic, the authorities automatically extended insurance even for those who did not qualify. At midnight tonight, that rule will end - and about 15 million people will no longer be eligible for insurance. However, the loss of Medicaid will not happen everywhere immediately: some states will allow phasing out of coverage until October. Also, different states have different rules for obtaining insurance. For example, in New York, a person with an annual pre-tax income of $19 can qualify for Medicaid; for a married couple, it is $392. Exceeding your income by even one dollar is a reason to exclude you from the program.
