A one-year-old baby lived with a battery in his esophagus for more than a month - and miraculously did not die

After his first birthday, Luke McMillan from Arizona went from an active toddler to a lethargic and sickly boy. The child's mother, Erica, took him to pediatricians who only prescribed antibiotics. Over time, the baby began to have difficulty swallowing. The doctors said that the baby had reflux, but my mother’s intuition prompted me to take Luke for an x-ray. The images showed that a small battery was stuck in the child's esophagus. Doctors at first thought it was a coin, because such batteries, once they enter the body, begin to decompose within two hours. However, the baby was lucky: after the operation it turned out that the battery was wrapped in electrical tape - this is what saved Luke, otherwise he would have been poisoned by the contents of the battery long ago.

Now the baby faces a long recovery: the battery damaged the tissue of the esophagus, which will have to be built up. Luke's mother encourages parents to get rid of all batteries in the house.
