The Choir of the Synodal Cathedral in New York is a professional ensemble dedicated to the outstanding traditional performance of Russian Orthodox liturgical music. It was founded in 1952 in New York by the famous conductor and composer Boris Mikhailovich Ledkovsky, from the choirs who performed with him in Europe in the 40s. And the general producer is Nadezhda Kovarskaya.

The New York Synodal Choir invites you to a rare charity concert of a spiritual chapel embracing the Russian Orthodox tradition under the direction of regent Vadim Gan. The choir offers listeners the following program: Spiritual Works: “And on earth peace” in a rare concert performance. The program includes works by composers: Boris Mikhailovich Ledkovsky, Nikolai Nikolaevich Cherepnin “It is Worthy to Eat”, Dmitry Stepanovich Bortnyansky (imperial composer from Ukraine), Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninov.

Viewers will be immersed in the serene atmosphere of this ornate Orthodox church, located in the landmark Carnegie Hill mansion of Delano & Aldrich, and the world-famous Synod Cathedral Choir performing sacred chants spanning four centuries of Slavic traditions, from Bortnyansky to Rachmaninov. The works will be sung in Church Slavonic, and translations will also be provided.

The choir strives to perform the historical repertoire, which inspires many church musicians of the Russian emigration around the world. The son of the choir founder, Alexander Borisovich Ledkovsky, directed the Synodal Choir for about thirty years, from the end of March 1975. In addition to continuing the choral traditions established by his father, Alexander Borisovich in recent years has expanded his father’s work and harmonized holiday texts based on ancient chants following the example of the glorious “Moscow School”. For almost half a century, the choir's activities have focused on regular services in the Synodal Cathedral of the Mother of God of the Sign in the building of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. In addition, both father and son have led special projects, including preparing the choir for historic services on special occasions, and numerous concerts and several recordings. Among the choir's prominent undertakings during this time are the choir's concert tour of the Holy Land, and the performance of liturgical and secular hymns in places such as New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. Several members of the choir participated in a concert performance of Mussorgsky's opera Khovanshchina with the New York City Opera Orchestra at Carnegie Hall.

In these days of strife and enmity, come, plunge, feel what unites us: ethereal beauty, the desire for unity, cohesion and the highest love. Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear this unique concert and send your joint prayers for world peace and close fellowship. Come and become part of something truly meaningful!
