January of this year topped the anti-rating for the number of mass shootings
According to the Gun Violence Archive, there were 2023 mass gun attacks in the United States in January 40. This figure only includes incidents in which 4 or more people, not including the shooter, were killed or injured.
This month is an anti-record for the 9 years of the Archive’s existence. Last year, also in January, 34 attacks were recorded. According to the US Secret Service, 93% of shooters had personal problems before the incidents, such as divorce, problems at school or at work.
However, experts note that it is difficult to pinpoint the root causes of the upward trend in gun violence because mass shootings are often unpredictable.
