FDA recalls 4,2 million FreeStyle Libre blood glucose meters
Some FreeStyle Libre glucose monitors have resulted in at least 7 fires and XNUMX injury. The US Food and Drug Administration has recalled the products because they may cause “serious injury or death.” The devices used with the FreeStyle Libre line use lithium-ion batteries, similar to those found in mobile phones. Some users have complained of them swelling, overheating and, in some cases, generating sparks.
The FDA says using other USB cables or power adapters, as well as improper use of the equipment, such as damage or exposure to liquids, may increase the risk of the monitors catching fire.
