Eating one fish from a US lake is equivalent to drinking toxic water for a month.
Researchers analyzed the composition of hundreds of fish caught in American rivers and lakes. They found a critical content of PFAS - the so-called “eternal chemicals”. Scientists have calculated that just one wild fish contains as many dangerous toxins as the amount of contaminated water that an average person can consume in a month. PFAS are produced for fire-resistant foam, textiles, packaging, and frying pans. These substances do not decompose, but only accumulate - including in lake or river fish.
