Ukrainian bar “Slava” opened in Soho

Recently, the Ukrainian cocktail bar “Slava” opened in Soho - a new exotic-ethnic project from the same team that created the now popular Pineapple Club bar in the West Village. Slava Bar opened its doors earlier this month on the second floor of 77 West Houston Street - where the Pegu Club bar was previously located. The creators of one of the first Ukrainian-themed bars in NYC are Odessa native Alexander Shcherbina and former Lviv resident Nazar Grab. Interestingly, initially, in the spring of this year, it was planned to call the bar “Babushka” and give it a distinct Russian flair. But, after the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the name and concept of the bar were radically changed - its creators still had relatives and friends in their historical homeland, under fire. Among the unusual items on the bar's drink list are the Old Kyiv cocktail (bourbon with homemade chestnut orchard), Borscht punch (real filtered borscht as the base of the cocktail), and the Grandfather shot (corn whiskey, Aperol, lime juice and black elderberry extract). Lovers of less unusual drinks will be offered cocktails based on vodka and martini, radish extract, honey, plum and beetroot.
